Frequently Asked Questions
What is Healing Work?
I use the term Healing Work because healing — coming into ease, acceptance, and recovery— is the central principle around which my work is organized. I use elements of psychology, coaching/mentorship, and spirituality to support the process of healing and the related process of personal growth. For more on my perspective and techniques, read my About page.
Who should get Healing Work?
Everyone! Healing Work is like a good night’s rest: beneficial to every human being, but it can be particularly helpful when you are feeling conflicted, burdened, burned out, confused, anxious or unsettled. The work helps to discover what drives these states and helps to alleviate them.
What are sessions like?
Sessions involve some combination of talking, breathing, sensing into your physical sensations, processing, meditating and bodywork on the massage table. Each session is unique and is based on your current needs and wants.
What is energy work?
You may have heard of Reiki, hands-on healing, or healing touch. What I do is similar to each of these, but unlike these more restful and passive modalities, the work I do can be more active, involving emotional processing and conversation. The energy work portion usually takes place on a padded massage table — if you are comfortable I will place my hands lightly on your body. Learn more in the About page.
How did you get into Healing Work?
When I was just 20, my yoga teacher, who was also a gifted spiritual healer, introduced me to the concept of healing sessions. Sessions with her helped me through a devastating period of time in my life — more than anything else had ever helped me. Physically, I found she was able to do things I didn’t think were possible and so I began to ask her questions after class. Lucky for me, she was eager to teach. That was the beginning! Fast forward a couple of decades, and now I do Healing Work for her! (shown below)
What if I don’t want to do the energy work part?
That’s fine. I like to leave it open though and let the healing determine its own path. Sometimes talk is what’s needed. Other times, energy work and other activities are most helpful. There is a lot of room for individualization in these sessions because they are about you and your process. Healing will not happen if you don’t feel right about what you’re doing.
Do you work with physical conditions?
I have been involved in the healing journey of various physical issues, including cancers, chronic and acute conditions, pre/post-surgery recovery, and many others. I’ve found that physical injuries carry significant emotional components, and the two can heal together. Physically, clients of mine have seen reductions in pain, improved coherence in their healing processes, and a greater sense of peace and acceptance of their condition.
Are you a therapist? Can you treat mental illness (depression, anxiety, etc.) ?
I am not a clinician or medical professional so I don’t “treat” anything. My craft is to sense into what is happening with you right now and to explore how that came to be and what might be known about it. Mental illness, trauma, and other forces present themselves often and we embrace that when it happens. But my work is not a treatment course or structured program to address any one condition or another.
Do you do remote sessions?
Yes. The work is just as effective via videoconference. Remarkable!
Do you do house calls?
I have done this, yes. If it is not possible for you to come to my location, then we can discuss the possibilities.
Do you work with kids?
Yes. In general you can expect that your child will participate in a session for 3 minutes for every year they have been alive. So if they are 9, you can expect them to stay still for 27 minutes on the massage table.
Do you take insurance?
No, the benefits of this work are as yet undiscovered by medical insurance!
What are the payment options?
I take cash, check, PayPal, Venmo, and credit cards (additional fee).
